Eco Fuel
Any discussion on pollution would inevitably bring the topic of emissions from burning fuel for various purposes. Fossil fuel which we commonly use in the form of petroleum products or coal produces hazardous toxins that disturb the eco system. Fuel consumption is also growing at alarming rate across the world, which is not proportionate to the availability of fuel. The shrinking oil resources and sky rocketing fuel prices have made the demand for alternative fuel resources a serious issue globally. A possible remedy could be the eco fuels or biofuels as they are commonly known. En eco fuel or biofuel derived from plants and other organisms offer eco friendly renewable energy.
Earth provides numerous eco fuel resources from it rich biodiversity. Wood, sawdust, crops producing sugar, starch and oil as well waste, animal waste such as manure, etc. all come under the category of eco friendly fuel resources. These eco fuels, when processed, can produce solid, liquid, gas and oil fuel forms to meet the needs of global fuel usage.
The biofuels can compensate the shortage or non availability of other fuels when used as multifuel systems. Multifuel systems usually operate on different types of fuel in a single device. It is possible to use two or more forms of eco fuel for combustion.
The eco fuels are highly region specific, depending on geographical and climate conditions of the region of a particular fuel resource. Differences in habitat affect plant and crop growth, making it impossible for some plants or crops to grow at some places. Hence, it is best to avail the benefits of renewable fuel sources pertaining to a region.
Though eco friendly fuels have their advantages over the fossil fuels, such as renewability, availability, low pollution rate, and low processing cost, they too have their shortcomings. If the eco fuels are not used sensibly, the carbon dioxide they emit on combustion can be as dangerous as any other toxic gas.
To make the most of these eco friendly fuels, steps must be taken to ensure that cutting down trees and plants for obtaining eco fuel does not lead to deforestation and thereby a reduced level of oxygen. Researches must be undertaken to make the eco fuels sustainable, along with an agenda to restore to nature what is taken from it. Otherwise, no eco fuel can salvage what humans have already fuelled in the past few decades namely, eco system disruption.
