Eco Gas
At a time when global media are inundated with reports of the catastrophic results of global warming, the process to be eco friendly in all aspects is gaining momentum. Substituting the carcinogenic and pollution causing agents with less harmful alternatives is just one step in safeguarding the world against the fatal future awaiting it. One major contribution to global warming is the emission of toxic gases from the combustion of fossil fuels like petrol, diesel, coal, etc. If these fossil fuels can be replaced by organic fuels, it would help in reducing the amount of poisonous emissions.
Eco gas or biogas is the eco friendly alternative to fossil fuels. It is obtained from organic matter, is renewable energy, and is also economical. The sources of eco fuels are usually trees, crops, manure, and organic waste. Though the eco fuels are available in oil, liquid, solid and gas forms, the widely used form is the gaseous eco fuel. It is used in industrial, commercial and domestic units for various heating purposes.
The production of eco gas for domestic use is simple and economical, and is a popular method in the rural areas of many developing nations. Biogas plants can be built with low cost in community places or even in individual houses. The most common resource of eco fuels in biogas plants is manure, kitchen waste, agricultural waste, and other biodegradable waste. The eco friendly gas produced thus is good for cooking, is odor free, emits less smoke, needs no refilling or waiting for the fuel to arrive, and is easily available as long as there is biological waste. When earthworms are introduced into the pits or containers that collect the organic matter for fuel production, the by-product of the gas is an organic fertilizer known as slurry. This can be used as compost in small scale or large scale farming depending on the amount of slurry produced. It can also be sold as natural soil conditioner, thereby bringing more financial benefits. In some countries the governments give subsidies to construct biogas plants as part of promoting environment friendly activities. It also boosts individual and community self reliance as each society can cater to their needs without any outside aid.
Apart from solar heating, eco heating can also be powered by eco gases. The heating requirements in industrial units can be met with the eco gases when they are produced in large quantities using modern technology and vast production space. When properly processed, the eco gases can be used to fuel vehicles. Space and water heating needs too are met with the eco gases. Many commercial establishments have started to use eco gases not only for its low cost, but also to be a part of the global environment protection initiative.
